Block 64 Rising Star

This one was fun to make. I really like the secondary pattern made by the orange corners, even if mine don’t quite line up perfectly 😉

For the quilting, I wanted to practice dot-to-dot free motion quilting in the outer squares. I used a chalk pencil to draw a diagonal line across each square connecting the two outer corners that are next to the red and white print. I marked a point about 1/2″ or 3/4″ in from each end of the line. Then I quilted from the outermost corner to one of the dots on the chalked line, and from there to the innermost corner of the red square. Then back out to the other dot, and back to the outermost corner. From there, I stitched in the ditch to the next corner and started over. I didn’t use rulers and I’m happy with how those lines turned out.

I quilted a diagonal double line through the middle of the block to break up the yellow square, echoed inside the red and white print patches, and called it done.
