These are tools that I’ve made to help myself stay organized while quilting. They are free for personal use. Print as many copies as you like–for personal use only–and feel free to share them with friends as long as the QuiltSmith copyright stays on the bottom.
If you’d like to use any of these in a workshop that you get paid for, print them in a book, or use them for another commercial purpose, you need to ask my permission first.
Enjoy!
Fabric Cutting Diagram (14888 downloads )
Stay organized when cutting several different fabrics for a quilt. Print one copy for each fabric, draw lines for cutting and sub-cutting, and add notes for cutting and piecing. See a completed example here.
FMQ Troubleshooting Tracker (8422 downloads )
Having trouble with thread breaking, skipped stitches, or other free-motion quilting woes? Once you’ve serviced the machine, rethreaded the top and the bobbin, and replaced the needle, use this tracker to capture the settings you change and record the ones that your machine likes best. The second page has room for four attempts, with spaces to record tension settings, thread type, needle type, stitch length, and more. Once you discover what your machine does and doesn’t like, record that on the first page. You can also customize a checklist to remind yourself to set everything correctly when you switch from piecing to free-motion quilting. See a completed example here.
Magnetic Swatches System: Free Pattern (7842 downloads )
Even if your sewing space doesn’t have room for a large magnetic bulletin board, you can still make and use magnetic fabric swatches. Just stitch up a batch of these fabric covers, fill them with flexible steel sheets, and pull them out when you need to create a mood board or select fabric colors! Each board is 8 1/2″ x 11.” Full instructions are available here.
