Simple Simon was easy and fun to make. I wanted the quilting to emphasize the gold stripes, so I didn’t quilt over them. I also wanted to enhance the contrast between the light green and dark green background squares. I did a simple back and forth line in the lighter squares, and I practiced the dot-to-dot technique that I learned from Angela Walters’ Craftsy class in the darker squares. I used a quilt marking pencil to draw a light diagonal line so that I would know where to change direction on the angled lines.
The denser quilting in the light green squares gives the block a nice texture, and the lighter quilting in the dark squares helps them pop forward a bit more than the light ones. Overall I’m pleased with the way this block came out.
