I had a lot of fun making this block and deciding how to orient the four log cabin units. Pat Sloan designed it and she shows three different layouts in the pattern (I think I used a fourth). When it came to quilting it, I wanted to use a design that contrasted with the angles in the block, so I picked a continuous curve that I want to practice. It’s another design I learned first from Angela Walters and clearly I need to keep practicing 🙂
I don’t love the final effect. The quilting design gets lost because the thread blends with the darker patches and shows up on the lighter ones, so it’s broken and a little confusing. Next time I think I’d either pick a different quilting design or use a thread that either blends all over or contrasts all over. This one might be improved by echoing inside the ‘petals’ for a little more definition… maybe I’ll try it yet. Another lesson learned!
Inside Out is a Splendid Sampler bonus block designed by Pat Sloan.
Great looking block and quilting!
Thank you, Cheryl! Thanks for stopping by!
