Quilting on reverse of block 52 Coneflower
I’m still working out good approaches for quilting on and around appliqué and embroidery. For this block, I wanted to suggest the bumpy texture of the center of the flower, so I quilted some loops in there. I also wanted the appliqué to stand out, so I echoed once around the whole design.
I decided to echo inside each petal, but I left the stem unquilted to help it look smooth and round like a stem.
The background was an experiment and I love how it turned out. The narrow lines all point toward the flower so they draw the eye right in to the appliqué and give the block a happy energy. This one was fun to make!
